happy monday, I thought I would do a muzikal kind of post, I have been listening to a lot of music lately and I have some things I would like to share with you all

1. I think this guy killed hip hop a few months ago, just my honest opinion.
His name is Lil B, he makes his own beats, his raps are intense.
He releases a new song pretty much every day, he is the ultimate punk.


So yeah it looks like everything that commercial rappers do now is just going to be copying Lil B (notice how Kanye, Bun-B, Jay-Z etc are all on the releasing new songs and getting on social media bandwagons lately.... hmmmm) just a thing you should notice...


2. I think the future of hip hop (aka world muzik) is growing itself organically worldwide, here is a French example.



real fuckin tweaked, reminds me of a MC Gaffe performance, if she had a twin sister and diplo beatboxing for her...

3. Some lads in the south recently made a hit cartoon called Short Bus Shawty, its a parody of the Trap muzik coming from Atlanta, and even though its a joke, its kind of a good song...


pretty good write off, made me challenge my idols, so yeah nice one lads...

4. Finally, I finished the video of us rappin at the Indigenous Literacy Benefit last month

Alignments in action

On saturday morning we received an email from a friend we didn't know we had. It helped us write this mission statement:

We took inspiration from it, so I wanted to share:

"fashion weak" shirt. I just wanted to let you know that I think it is
the greatest shirt I've ever seen. I also have gotten tons of
compliments on it.

ハイ！私はXX。今ニューヨークに住んでいます。最近あなた達の会社のサイトから｢ファッションウィーク｣Tシャツを買いました。すっごくお気に入りで、私が今まで見たTシャツの中でも最高のデザイン！友達にもよく羨ましがられます。

One of my best friends is Australian and I saw hr
wearing it, and bought it that same day. I actually love all your
shirts and think you dudes are amazing. But I wanted to tell you a
little story of what happened to me while I was wearing it.

きっかけは私の親友のオーストラリア人。彼女があなた達の会社のTシャツを着てるのを見て、私も迷わず即日買いしちゃいました。サイトにある服どれもかっこよくて、本当にデザイナーを尊敬しています。

だけど実は、このTシャツが発端で、ちょっとした出来事があったのでそれをお伝えしようと今回はメールした次第です。

A few people have called me a pervert, or a freak, whatever, that's
expected... However, I went out with the guy I was dating on tuesday.

まあ、過去にも何回か｢変わってるね｣と言われてきたので、慣れてはいたのですが・・・。

ともかく、ある火曜日私は彼氏とデートに出かけました。

We've been dating for about two months, he works at a fashion magazine
in paris. We went out to a club in nyc, and after about fifteen
minutes of being there he asked me to turn the shirt to the white
side, so that people couldn't see it.

彼とは付き合って二ヶ月くらい。仕事はパリでファッション雑誌の編集をしています。

その日私たちはニューヨークシティーにあるクラブに行きました。入ってしばらくすると、彼はおもむろにこう言いました。

｢そのシャツを脱いで裏返しできてくれないか？皆から見えないように。｣

I was in complete shock so I just stood there. Then he proceeded to rip my shirt off me, in front
of heaps of people, and turn it to the white side and put it back on
me... then he pulled me aside and lectured me for ten minutes about
how offensive and disrespectful it is & He's good friends with Karl etc. etc

私はあまりのショックに声も出ず、思わずフリーズしてしまい思考停止の状態になりました。動こうとしない私を見て、彼は多くの人が周りにいるにもかかわらず無理やりTシャツを脱がすと、さっさと裏返しにして私に着せました。

更に、その後なぜか数十分小言を言われつづけたのです。

And he was just going on for ten minutes about that.

I went to the bathroom changed it back to the karl side, and wore it properly the

rest of the night. Now he isn't speaking to me.

意味不明の説教の後、納得のいかない私はトイレに行きTシャツをもとの正しい表側で着なおしました。すると、その後彼は永遠と私を無視しつづけ、それは今に至っています。

Your shirt made me lose the dude I was sleeping with!
ま、大丈夫なんですけど。ただ、一応このような出来事があったということを報告しとこうと思いました。

But seriously dudes, that fashion weak shirt is the greatest thing I
own. Please keep making offensive shirts so I can wear them.

I love hearing stories of people doing what THEY feel like doing, not acting to impress whoever they are around. People are inspired on this planet by organic alignments that happen ONLY when they are doing what they feel.

人々が、周りの目を気にしてオドオド行動するのではなく、自分の好きなように行動しているって話を聞くのが好きだ。人間は本来自由で、自然体でいる時こそアーティストになりうると僕は思う。

To us, the date described in the email was a demonstration of alignments action.

彼女の話は、この紛れもない事実を証明するひとつの出来事。

If she had not of worn the FASHION WEAK shirt, and had not had this tiff, she may have ended up marrying this guy, never knowing his darker side - the fact that he thinks he can tell others how to act.

もし、彼女がこの日ファッションウィークのTシャツを着ていなかったら、付き合ってる彼氏の本性も知らないまま結婚していたかもしれない。他人に自分の意見を押し付け服従させようとする本性。

And what are the odds that I have his blog in my google reader?

ま、試しに彼のブログでこの出来事がどう説明されてみるか読んでみるのも面白そうだけど。

We think the idea that people can 'OWN' ideas is fucked.

Ideas should be shared and appreciated.

アイデアは本来シェアすべきもので、皆から賞賛されるものであるはず。

Art- People being inspired by information, an artist needs to take it into their brain and fuck with it from every angle. Everyone is [has potential to be] an artist acting on their own philosophy. A practicing artist has a form in which they are confident can convey their philosophy (context) to others. Our Art is our life (Pete Versus Toby), and our canvas is our garments.

SO WHO DID WE STEAL FROM? COPY FROM? INSPIRATION?
Lets just start with some good old fashioned name dropping, because as human beings its easist to copy other humans.

I have to say that Bill Hicks infamous joke about the worst kind of advertising using blatant sexuality (see video below) would have probably shifted us the most.

Copyright was pronounced (by Pete Versus Toby) dead on the 13th of June, 2010. The current suspects are Google, Photoshop and the Legal Marijuana movement.

"To create anything in our contemporary world is a struggle. Language has been prostituted to marketing; Images have been auctioned off to advertising. Where is meaning? Who knows? Us antipodeans receive culture through osmosis; as culture crosses the world its significance is often lost on the ocean floor. So accordingly, when one wishes to represent an image on a t-shirt, as Pete Versus Toby does, one has to be aware of this scission between reality and representation. Luckily, confusion creates a great foundation for creativity...

Modern life is constantly crying out for it to be reflected. We use t-shirts as our mirrors. We instill our shirts with challenges. Our aim is to deconstruct the collective conscience which decides what is good and what is bad...

In an age of confusion, a different outlook is needed. Pete Versus Toby intends to provide this. Our shirts may seem perplexing at first sight, but look deeper and find that meaning isn’t all together lost..."

Perhaps when Robert Charles Guidry first penned this iconic song, he never would have thought it would appear on a Pete Versus Toby design. Perhaps it's why he wrote the song in the first place.

Jacob Rivers illustration I met Jacob in San Fran, he is a homeless kid from Minnesota, anyways he loves living in the park in Haight/Ashbury district, there are plenty of other trippers like him just chillin out. If you like his art his phone number is on the design (actually his parents in Minesotta) Marijuana is a Herb. We have been living in prohibition for the last 50 years. The move to legalisation is gaining momentum. This is our international collaboration to help…

96. Aboriginal Supermodel

One night at ching a lings with my friend Sonke, we were fucking around with werdz and trying some contagious amerikan namedropping. It went something like this: Marco: I met this epic Aboriginal model in New York Sonke: Aboriginal Supermodel? Did you go back to her crib and hit the hammer? Marco: Yeh then she ended up in Hospital, it was real hectic Sonke: What did you do? Marco: I thought it was weird that she thought her Vinyl collection wasn’t that cool, I mean it had some street punk bands from 80s Newtown and that’s rare in young models these days… Sonke: damn you and your smelly Werdz…

What a week!

Hello Planet Earth, and the multiverse.

The movement has started, 'Palestine' HQ in Bondi Beach Australia is officially over.

The up-cycled Pete Versus Toby visionary store (ZION) will be open from the 27th of june 2010

256 crown st, Darlinghurst, Sydney Australia.

We thank the community of Bondi as whole for putting up with us, nurturing and propelling us

into the future.

Pete and Toby have been observing the ripples on the beach with courage and respect, and have

now moved to make waves...

big events this week:

Tuesday- Committed facebook suicide.

Wednesday- broken backs & bike rides brings the arrival of very very limited selection of locally made and sourced items that will be updated onto the online store and in ZION over the next few weeks.

Thursday- began with the installation/fitout of ZION till very late.

Friday- brought beautiful blue skies and smiles across the city.

This saturday we will be playing a handful of records with some friends at the basement in the
